I am a proud kid of the 80s and 90s eras of pop culture and music. I love the old school hip hop of my day. One song in particular came to mind as I was writing this post, Joy & Pain by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock. The opening hook in that song is
“Joy *pump it up pump it up now* and pain *come on come on* are like sunshine and rain…”
Isn’t that true of life? We experience joy and pain in the same day, sometimes in the same moment.
A year ago this month I gave birth to my dream of publishing a book. There’s been plenty of moments of joy and pain over the last year. My heart’s desire was that it (the book) would find it’s way into the hands of women (possibly some men) who needed to know we have can have peace in the midst of enduring hard things.
This book has left my hand and is out in the world accomplishing it’s purpose.
I quit smoking while reading “You Are Stronger Than You Think”, not because the book gave instructions on how to quit. It (the book) gave me insight into some of my personal struggles and advice to that helped me let go of my security blanket. When I would get weak, I simply told myself, “you are stronger than you think!” – Glenda Meyer
I must say that I am enjoying your book. I have lots of notes in the sidelines and at the Water Stations. I just finished chapter six and all I can say is…I NEEDED THAT!I have struggled, emotionally with my decision to return to work. Each time I tell myself to get over it because there are bigger problems in this world than this one. But, the emotions have been real…I mean bringing me to tears almost every day real! I feel like you wrote that chapter for me. LOL! While I know you didn’t….it helped my heart, my mind and spirit! – Paula Martin
This book helped me stand more confident and eager for a closer relationship with Christ. – Temeka Grandberry
The pictures above are just a few of the highlights from my book release journey. It hasn’t been an entire year of highlights, but we don’t photograph the hard times. Do we?
Besides the joy and pain of self publishing a book, I’ve experienced the joy and pain of hosting my live event. I recently experienced the joy and pain of resigning from my job with it’s predictable, nice-sized paycheck for the uncertainty of pursuing the God-sized dream I have for this community.
In celebration of my book-iversary I’ll be sharing more reflections, testimonials and book reviews on social media. I hope you will come along for the ride and share your stories, as well. I’m planning to do a live chat on Facebook this Friday at 10am MST. The Facebook page is StrongerThanNetwork. I’m @KendraTillman on Instagram.
