“We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.” -Jim Rohn
Would you let that quote sink in for a moment? Everyone of us at some point has set out to make a change in some area of our lives. Maybe, we are up to our eyeballs in credit card or student loan debt and we started off on a plan to pay off debt. Or maybe we enrolled in a program that’s going to help us get a degree or certification in an industry that we’re passionate about. Our enthusiasm is soon met with the reality of the pain of discipline.
Discipline is painful because it stretches us beyond our perceived limitations. It hurts to be stretched whether we or someone in our lives is doing the stretching. Hebrews 12:11 confirms, “no discipline is enjoyable while it is happening–it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.”
I’ve been resistant to host a challenge on my blog, because I know it’s going to hurt. It’s going to stretch me. I finally decided that I’m ready to deal with the discipline necessary to see this through. I would rather deal with the pain of discipline right now than the pain of regret a year from now. The accountability of hosting a challenge here is going to help me. I’m hoping you are in a similar place and you will join me.
What would happen if we stopped trying to tackle every change we want to make in our lives all at once and just focused on making one change? We are going to employ the power of FOCUS for March and April. For the month of March and April I’m inviting you to join me for the#make1change challenge.
We are going to focus on making 1 change for 21 days in a specific area of our lives. On the blog we will be focusing on nutrition in March and money in April. I have a couple of expert guests lined up to help us with this. I will be interviewing them for my monthly podcasts.
I am committing for the next 21 days there will be a new blog post every day. Over the next 21 days I’ll be sharing my ups, downs, mistakes and triumphs. I’m going to share it all. The Monday thru Friday posts will be similar to journal entries. I will share the good, the bad and the realities of living a disciplined life. The Saturday and Sunday blog posts will be short and sweet and very action oriented.
What could we achieve in 21 days? My hope is that 21 days from now we will be more focused, disciplined versions of ourselves. According to John Maxwell, dreams don’t work unless you do. The next 21 days are going to come and go whether you do this with me or not. I hope you will find the courage to join me.
Please, accept my invitation to this challenge by answering this question: What’s been your biggest obstacle to making consistent, lasting changes to the way you eat?
